Freshman Devour Donut Holes on First Day at SPHS

Severna Park's Donut Shack is always a treat—especially on the first day of school.

Incoming (SPHS) freshman were greeted on Tuesday morning, their first day, with a red carpet leading into the school and teachers enthusiastically clapping them along.

But to many ninth graders, it was the treat waiting inside that made their day.

By the time the incoming freshman reached the auditorium and were split into groups, then given a tour and time to check-out the school clubs, many stomachs were already growling.

A sweet surprise awaited them in the form of 900 donut holes (filling 15 boxes) prepared by the Donut Shack at a discount for the freshman's first day of SPHS. "They were awesome," said SPHS Freshman Marty Huff.

The mixed variety of donut holes took about two hours to prepare, done right in the shop, said Alex  Prevezianos, manager of the Shack. "We have to make the dough, cut it, let it rise, then fry and glaze them," he said.

Teenagers are among the Donut Shack's most dedicated customers. "We appreciate the parents, of course—but it is the kids that bring them here," Prevezianos said.

On Wednesday, the shop was preparing to fill another pre-order for 71 dozen donuts for Severn River Middle School. "The schools keep us busy," he said.
