Folger Sneak-a-Peek Gets Families Ready for School

The heavy rainfall was not enough to dampen the school spirit at Folger McKinsey Elementary School on Thursday night.

held their 2nd Annual “Sneak-a- Peek at Your Seat” on Thursday.  The event is designed to give parents and students a chance to see their classrooms, meet teachers, finalize school supply purchases and join the PTO before classes start.

Last year, the occasion was held in order to familiarize Folger families with their temporary home at .  Folger is slated to return to their newly expanded and renovated location during the spring of 2012.  In the meantime, the school shares space with Chesapeake Bay Middle School while construction is underway.

Folger Spirit was contagious as families flocked to the makeshift supply store in the cafeteria, organized by grade.  Along with teachers, staff and parents, student volunteers from and were on hand to make Sneak-a-Peek a community endeavor.

Folger's Principal Sue Bachmann was on hand to direct traffic and welcome both new and old families to Folger.

Even with the challenges of relocating to a temporary home, Bachmann noted the continued student success. “Folger is number one for MSA’s in Anne Arundel County and was ranked number one for math in the state. Over 95 percent of our fifth graders scored advanced in math,” she said."

The long lines of last year were replaced with the streamlined payment processing area.  Instead of paying for each transaction in designated areas, families went to the cashiers to checkout and pay once for all the activities.

“Jennifer Lee did a great job reorganizing everything to make it much smoother this year," said volunteer Lise Chaisson.
