BWMC Sponsors Camp Airways

Many children with asthma do not have the opportunity to participate in summer camps due to their medical condition. For the 24th consecutive summer, Baltimore Washington Medical Center is sponsoring "Camp Airways" to give children with asthma that opportunity. This year's camp will be held from August 6-10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park.

Camp Airways is a weeklong day camp designed for children ages 6-12 with asthma. Campers will participate in a range of activities including asthma and nutrition education, arts and crafts, swimming and other outdoor activities. The goal of the camp is to teach children with asthma how to live with and manage their condition, as well as provide opportunities to interact with other children with asthma.

In addition to campers attending Airways, the medical center also seeks junior counselors to help with everyday activities. Junior counselors must be at least 15 years of age and available to attend camp from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Responsibilities include serving as a mentor or “camp buddy” for two assigned campers and assisting campers with daily activities including arts and crafts, asthma education, swimming and other outdoor activities. All counselors must provide their own transportation to and from camp each day.
