Chatting with SPHS Field Hockey Senior Taylor Anspach

The senior field hockey star scored the game-winning goal on Saturday against Delaware's Cape Henlopen.

Patch stopped by the Severna Park varsity field hockey practice and spoke with senior Taylor Anspach, 16, about her field hockey career, life at SPHS and her plans for the future.

Pasadena Patch: What is your favorite Severna Park field hockey memory?
Taylor Anspach:
I would have to say I like the sister bags and getting ready for the games. We have bagel breakfasts and it is so much fun. It is also great to get to know the JV girls with our sister bags. My sister right now is the JV coach’s daughter and she used to come to all of our games for such a long time, so it is really nice to have her.

Pasadena Patch: After winning the Maryland 4A field hockey championship last year, what are your expectations for this season?
Anspach:
We are hoping to go all the way to states this year. It would be really nice, especially with having a new coach, and it would be nice to show [Lil] Shelton we can still do it.

Pasadena Patch: What other groups or activities do you participate in at Severna Park High School?
Anspach:
My sophomore and junior year I did dance company. That got to be a lot going into senior year, so I unfortunately had to stop. But that was so much fun because I danced when I was little and it was nice to be able to continue it while still doing field hockey.

Pasadena Patch: What was your favorite class at Severna Park?
Anspach:
My favorite class would probably be my freshman year when I had geometry with Ms. Hageman. I don’t know why, but I just loved that class. I happen to be really good at math and that class was just fun.

Pasadena Patch: What are you plans after high school?
Anspach:
I am going to go to college somewhere hopefully south. As far as field hockey goes I think I want to play club because my sister plays in college and I see how much work it is. I give her props for doing it in college, but it is not for me. I love it now and love playing as a senior, but I think club would be better for me in college.
