Patch stopped by the Severna Park varsity field hockey practice and spoke with senior Kelly Curran, 17, about her field hockey career, life at SPHS and her plans for the future.
Severna Park Patch: What is your favorite Severna Park field hockey memory?
Kelly Curran: Probably beating South River the third time we played them last season. The feeling we had before the actual game—just going back now and thinking about it gives me the chills.
Severna Park Patch: After winning the Maryland 4A field hockey championship last year, what are your expectations for this season?
Curran: I think that our group is really strong and I don’t think the new coach is an issue. We are coming out strong and winning. I think that we can still beat the top teams.
Severna Park Patch: What other groups or activities do you participate in at Severna Park High School?
Curran: No I just play field hockey. I used to play lacrosse in middle school but I decided to focus on field hockey all year long. I play indoor and outdoor in the spring.
Severna Park Patch: What was your favorite class at Severna Park High?
Curran: I like AP Statistic with Ms. Meadows. I just love math; I love everything about it.
Severna Park Patch: What are your plans after high school?
Curran: I might do club field hockey. I am interested in some colleges in North Carolina. I want to major in math or statistics.
