“This event has become an Anne Arundel County tradition for participants and patrons alike,” Mays said. “It's always my favorite event of the year.”

Winners of the competition earn more than bragging rights. Bands will compete this year for a day of recording time with renowned producer Steve Wright in Baltimore, along with dedicated airtime on local radio stations and a headliner at Ram's Head on Stage.

The bands' schools also stand to benefit from the contest—all proceeds are donated to the music departments of the top four high schools.

The show starts Saturday at 5 p.m. at Maryland Hall in Annapolis.
