Kelly Lynn Whitt, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene. Jianguo Pan, 54, died at the hospital. Police said she was traveling the wrong way on the highway when she struck another car.

UPDATED- (12:46 p.m.) - Two people died Thursday morning following a head-on collision on Interstate 97 in the Millersville area.

Officials from the Maryland State Police (MSP) and Anne Arundel County Fire Department said they responded shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday to the area just north of Maryland Route 32.

MSP said the driver of a 2007 Hyundai Accent was traveling southbound in the northbound lane when she collided with the driver of a 2002 Honda Accord.

The driver of the Hyundai was Kelly Lynn Whitt, 25, of Pasadena, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda suffered serious injuries and MSP transported him via helicopter to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Police identified him as Jianguo Pan, 54, of Glen Burnie. MSP told WBAL radio that Pan died a few hours later at the hospital.

Interstate 97 was closed for about three hours Thursday morning, allowing the rescue chopper to land directly onto the highway.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.

thank you! i dont know why everyone is making excuses, blaming the accident on something else! people need to pay attention when they drive! even if you are making a right there is a sign on the pole in front of you that says ONE WAY! if you can't drive park the car u are a danger to others!

Yes really. I remember being that age and being easily confused by directions, traffic patterns, etc. in areas that I was unfamiliar with.
