Stabbing Suspect Found in Glen Burnie

A tip from a citizen brought the Anne Arundel County police to the Glen Burnie Mall area where James Zito was apprehended.

James Arthur Zito, 21, who allegedly stabbed his mother and then fled their home in Millersville on Monday night, was apprehended by police at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday in the 6700 block of Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie, according to a press release.

Anne Arundel County police officers took Zito into custody near the Glen Burnie Mall after receiving a tip from a citizen. Zito was then taken to an area hospital for medical treatment, according to the press release.

Police responded to a family violence call at about 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of Stacy Oak Way in Shipley's Choice where a 54-year-old woman was suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Police issued a community alert at about 11:30 p.m. Monday night warning the community and surrounding area to lock their doors and to turn on exterior lights, according to a previous release.

While police were apprehending Zito in Glen Burnie, the police were about to begin a grid search of each yard in the Shipley's Choice community, according to Lt. Thomas Wheeler, who was on the scene at about 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The search was then called off and Wheeler expressed his gratitude to the residents of Stacey Oak Court for providing water to the officers who were canvassing the area.
