'Shop With a Cop' Gives Local Children a Chance to Shop for Families

The Severna Park Optimist Club is among others sponsoring the annual event at the Wal-Mart in Severn.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department in conjunction with the Severna Park,  Annapolis and Fort Smallwood Optimists Clubs will participate in the annual regional “Shop With A Cop” program beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 3).

The program provides holiday shopping money to children so that they can shop for their families while being accompanied by a uniformed police officer, according to a press release. It is coordinated by the Optimist Club with corporate sponsorship from Wal-Mart and Outback Steak House.

Officers from the police department will accompany children from their homes to  the Wal-Mart at 407 George Clauss Blvd. in Severn. Lunch will follow at the Outback Steak House in Glen Burnie.
