UPDATED: Police Locate Missing Pair, Found Safe and Unharmed

Anne Arundel County Police located John Joseph Schmincke of Brooklyn Park and Rachael Ann Fitzgerald of Glen Burnie near the Key Bridge Thursday afternoon. They had not been seen since July 4 in South Baltimore.

Updated 10:05 a.m. Friday: Anne Arundel County Police located John Schmincke of Brooklyn Park and Rachael Fitzgerald of Glen Burnie Thursday afternoon after they had been reported missing since July 4.

According to a police press release, officers stopped Schmincke and Fitzgerald at the Key Bridge at about 4 p.m. Thursday. They were in Schmincke's black Lexus and homicide detectives were called to the scene.

After interviewing the pair, detectives determined that Schmincke and Fitzgerald were safe and unharmed. Police will continue to investgate the evidence found in Fitzgerald's car that led officers to believe there had been a possible serious assault.

Original Article: Investigators from the Anne Arundel County Police Department are looking for two county residents who have not been seen since July 4 and may have been the victim of a serious assault.

Anne Arundel County Police Capt. Norm Milligan said John Joseph Schminke of Gischel Street in Brooklyn Park and Rachael Ann Fitzgerald of Phirne Road in Glen Burnie were last seen on Monday in South Baltimore.

He said detectives located Fitzgerald’s car and found evidence in the vehicle of a serious attack, but he declined to reveal more detail.

“We’re working with agencies up and down the East Coast,” Milligan said. “Right now, we’re just looking to make sure they’re OK.”

Schminke, who turned 32 years old on Thursday, is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. Fitzgerald, 28, stands 5 feet, 6 inches and 130 pounds.

Police said Schminke and Fitzgerald are known to spend time at bars in the Locust Point and South Baltimore area.

Detectives are still looking for Schminke’s car, a black 2005 Lexus LS430 with Maryland tags 6EEH41.
