Towson Man Locks Himself in Parents' Severna Park House, Gets Tased

The suspect locked himself inside his parents' home in Severna Park Saturday night.

A Towson man was tased by Anne Arundel County Police Saturday after breaking into his parents' Severna Park home and locking himself in his childhood room, police said in a release.

David J. Ruppert, 26, of Towson was arrested and charged with burglary, two counts of assault of a police officer and resisting arrest, the release said.

At 3:24 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a home in the 500 block of Bayberry Drive in Severna Park. The homeowner, who was not home at the time, called police and said that her son may be in her home without authorization, and said he had an outstanding warrant, according to a release.

Once inside the home, officers found a downstairs bedroom locked from the inside. Additional information indicated that was the suspects’ old room, police said. Officers were not able to get Ruppert out of the room.

Officers could see Ruppert was armed with mace, according to a release, and ordered the Quick Response Team to the barricade situation at 5:15 p.m.

While trying to bring Ruppert into custody, he “became combative” and stuck one officer with an object from the home and maced another, according to a release. Ruppert was ultimately Tased by police and taken into custody.
