Police Charge Annapolis Man with Severna Park Library Burglary

According to police, a man broke into the library on Saturday night and was found hiding in a storage room.

Anne Arundel County police charged an Annapolis man in connection with the burglary of the on Saturday evening.

Joseph Daniel Smith, 22, of the 2600 block of Greenbriar Lane in Annapolis was charged with burglary, destruction of property, theft under $1,000 and other related charges.

According to a police press release, officers responded to an alarm at the Severna Park Library at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday and noticed damage to the building and signs of a break-in.

Police said they saw Smith moving throughout the front of the building and called K-9 units to the library. Smith was found hiding in a library storage room, according to police.

An investigation revealed that Smith allegedly broke into the library and attempted to steal money from various locations in the building.
