Pedestrian Hit, Killed on Ritchie Highway

Traffic was re-routed around the scene of a fatal accident on Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie Friday morning.

A pedestrian was killed on a busy Anne Arundel County road in Glen Burnie early Friday morning.

Anne Arundel County police and fire crews were called to southbound Ritchie Highway near Marley Station Road in Glen Burnie around 4:30 a.m. after getting reports of a crash.

Police said they found a male victim at the scene, reports WBAL TV. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Authorities have not released the victim's age or identity. Detectives are still trying to determine why he was on the highway and how he was struck.

Southbound Ritchie Highway is closed between Norfolk Road and Marley Station Road for the investigation. Drivers who usually go through that area can take Interstate 97, Route 3 or Route 648 as alternates.
