Pedestrian and Bicyclist Fatalities Already Surpass Number of Deaths in 2010
The number of pedestrians and bicyclists who died after being struck by vehicles in Anne Arundel County as August approaches has already increased over the number of fatalities for all of 2010, according to police.
According to statistics from Anne Arundel County Police, eight people have died this year after being hit by a vehicle while walking. Another man, , died from injuries sustained during a July 14 hit-and-run in Brooklyn Park.
Within eight days, after being hit by a vehicle—with two of those cases being hit-and-run accidents.
Comparitively there were only seven fatalities in 2010, all pedestrians. In 2009 10 pedestrians died after being hit by a vehicle and one bicyclist died.

Numbers shared by police only included fatal accidents in the county. They do not include accidents where the pedestrian or bicyclist survived his or her injuries.

While the number of fatal and life-threatening crashes has not increased this year over previous years, according to police spokesman Justin Mulcahy, the incidents have put county residents on the alert.
