Local Man Faces Charges Related to Home Invasion of Elderly Severna Park Couple

Police said DNA found in the stolen vehicle led to an arrest in connection to the incident that occurred in August 2010.

Anne Arundel County police arrested Keith Allen Dooley, 42, on charges related to a home invasion and robbery of an elderly Severna Park couple on Redwood Road on Aug. 14, 2010.

Police said Dooley, who has previous addresses in Severna Park and Arnold, faces charges of robbery, assault and theft. He was identified by a DNA match on Nov. 29 by the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Eastern District, according to a press release.

More than a year ago in August 2010, police were called to a home on Redwood Road at about 8:50 p.m. for a reported home invasion robbery. According to police, when officers arrived at the home, they learned that a man had approached an elderly man and asked for a bottle of water at about 7 p.m. in front of his house. The man reportedly walked away and returned at about 8:45 p.m., asking for another bottle of water before forcing himself into the house at knife point.

Police said while the man was inside the home, he robbed the elderly married couple who lived there of an undisclosed amount of money, their credit cards and the keys to their car. He reportedly fled in the victim’s car, a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis. Both victims suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics.

According to police, the stolen vehicle was recovered in 2010 in the Park Plaza Shopping Center in Severna Park and the Anne Arundel County Police Evidence Collection Unit processed the victims’ home and vehicle for the presence of physical evidence. Police said DNA evidence was subsequently collected and entered into the Maryland State Police DNA Database. At that time, no match of the DNA was identified, according to police.

Police said one of the victims and a witness were able to positively identify Dooley as the individual responsible for the home invasion robbery. Dooley’s DNA had not been in the State Police Database during the time of the home invasion; however, it was recently collected from him following a burglary arrest in western Maryland, according to police.

Dooley is currently incarcerated in the Maryland Division of Corrections in Hagerstown, MD, on an unrelated burglary conviction.
