House Fire, Injured Bicyclist

Here's a wrap of incidents in Severna Park provided by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

In addition to strong storms causing downed trees and power lines in the Severna Park area over the weekend, a 23-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized after he was hit by a car around 9 a.m. Saturday at Earleigh Heights Road and the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Lt. Cliff Koozer. He was taken to the shock trauma center in Baltimore with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

A Hatton Drive family awoke early Sunday morning to the sound of smoke detectors and found a bedroom on fire around 1:44 a.m., according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Lt. Cliff Koozer.

It took 22 firefighters about 10 minutes to get the fire under control.The cause of the fire is undetermined and it is unknown whether anyone was in the bedroom when the fire started. The fire caused an estimated $10,000 in damage.
