Vehicle Hits Tree: Accident Closes Route 2 on Friday

Police said the driver's injuries were life-threatening.

A single-vehicle accident closed down a portion of Route 2 Ritchie Highway for about an hour on Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred just before 1 p.m. on Route 2 near McKinsey Road. The driver crossed over southbound Route 2, hitting a curb and bushes before colliding head-on with a tree, according to a Facebook post from Anne Arundel County police.

A tweet from police indicated that Route 2 was reopened in both directions at about 2 p.m.

Police believe the driver may have suffered from a medical emergency prior to the accident, and said the driver's injuries were life-threatening.

Witnesses reported that a Maryland State Police helicopter was on the scene to transport the driver. Police said there is no information on the condition of the driver.
