A bicyclist from Edgewater is in the hospital after he was struck by a pickup truck Wednesday near the intersection of Central Avenue and Selby Boulevard.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department says Anthony Lee Williams, 51, of Edgewater, suffered serious injuries in the collision.

Preliminary investigation determined that Williams was westbound on Central Avenue just west of Winding Road toward Selby Boulevard. The driver of a pickup truck, 53-year-old Coleman Lawson of Harwood, was also westbound on Central Avenue.

Police said Williams entered the travel portion of the road toward the eastbound lanes of Central Avenue when Lawson’s pickup truck struck the bicyclist. The pickup dragged Williams several feet until the truck stopped in the eastbound lane of Central Avenue.

Williams was taken by helicopter to University of Maryland Shock Trauma, where he is listed in stable condition.
