Anne Arundel County Football Roundup: Week 9

With two weeks remaining in the regular season, see how the Anne Arundel County football teams fair.

High school football teams in Anne Arundel County will begin their ninth week of play on Friday night. Patch has rounded up the records and schedules for each team and produced some power rankings.

Much like last week, Arundel, Old Mill, Broadneck, and South River would clinch playoff spots for the Class 4A East Region if the season ended today, according to the MPSSAA website. However, despite having just two weeks of play left, there are a few key matchups remaining.

Here's a look at what's ahead for the whole county.

1. Arundel (8-0): The Wildcats still rank the highest in the county and in the 4A East Region in terms of wins—and will most likely stay that way. In its two remaining games, Arundel will host Chesapeake (5-3) on Friday and travel to Southern (3-5) next week. Arundel's high-powered offense should easily handle its final two opponents. Look for this team to make a playoff run.

2. Old Mill (7-1): The Patriots will travel to Glen Burnie (2-6) on Friday and should come away with a win. Old Mill has produced high offensive numbers throughout the season, and will be too much for the Gophers to handle. The Patriots' real test will come next week, when they face South River (6-2).

3. Broadneck (6-2): Despite having the same record as South River (6-2), the Bruins get the higher seed because they defeated the Seahawks 28-24 on Sept. 14. This week, Broadneck will travel to Southern (3-5), which has struggled against teams with a good offense this season. Broadneck's challenge will come in its final game next week, when it takes on Meade (6-2), another team competing for a 4A East Region playoff spot.

4. South River (6-2):The Seahawks have been led this season largely by running back Lavon Chaney—who frequently leads the state in rushing yards. South River will host North County (1-7) Friday night and should get a win. The Seahawks will face Old Mill (7-1) during the final game of the regular season.

5. Meade (6-2): The Mustangs have the same record as Broadneck and South River, but according to the MPSSAA rankings, Meade ranks below its county opponents. (The MPSSAA rankings are based on a formula weighing the strength of victory and opponents.) The Mustangs will host Severna Park on Friday—but their real challenge comes next week at Broadneck. Meade needs to win both of its final games if it wants a shot at post-season play.

6. Chesapeake (5-3): At Arundel

7. Severna Park (3-5): At Meade

8. Southern (3-5): Home against Broadneck

9. Glen Burnie (2-6): Home against Old Mill

10. Northeast (1-7): Home against Annapolis

11. North County (1-6): At South River

12. Annapolis (0-7): At Northeast
