Barranco Obituary: Edwin C. Muhly, Jr.

Edwin Muhly, Jr. passed away in his home in Arnold on Nov. 17. He was 82.

Edwin Muhly, Jr.: Muhly, Jr., Edwin C., Sonny passed away peacefully at home in Arnold with his wife, Kathleen where he resided for 40 years. He was 82 years old.

The son of the late Edwin and Irma Muhly, was born in Baltimore in 1930, attended McDonough Prep School and graduated from the University of Virginia in 1952. He played lacrosse for both schools and was a member of the 1952 National Championship team at UVA. He later enjoyed watching his sons, Chris and Chuck, daughter Sonya, granddaughter Kiersten and grandson Adam Hall play sports as well.

Muhly’s Bakery owned and operated by the Muhly family for 6 generations was very well known in Baltimore and Annapolis. They still own the building that housed the bakery which is now home to popular Mother’s Grill on S. Charles St. in Baltimore.

Sonny was an active alumnus at McDonough Prep School, on the alumni board of UVA, and was on the board of directors at Heritage Savings and loan for many years.

Boating was a favorite past time for Sonny while living in Linstead on the Severn and while living on the Magothy River in Arnold.

Sonny is survived by his wife Kathleen whom he was married to for 40 years, 2 sons, Chris and Chuck, and 2 daughters, Sonya, and Dale Hall. He has a daughter-in-law, Missy Muhly and a son-in-law, Len Hall. His grandchildren are Taylor Muhly, Kiersten Muhly, and Adam Hall. Sonny is preceded in death by his sister Carol Allen of Pittsburgh.
