Step 3: Finding the Right Agent 

The next step is finding the right agent to work with.  Before you sign any paperwork committing you to a particular agent you should first determine if you work well with that agent.  

A good approach is to schedule a time to have the agent show you four or five properties in your desired area.  You should allow 2 to 3 hours for this appointment. Use this time to build a rapport with the agent and to determine if they will work well with you and if their personality matches your needs.  

This appointment should give you a good feel for how experienced the agent is.  You will be able to see if the agent is knowledgable about the market, if they listen to your feedback on the homes you have seen, or if they are too aggressive or pushy.    A good agent should be able to help you answer any questions about the properties and should help you feel comfortable making an informed decision about the property you ultimately decide to buy.
