A Tax Idea to boost our Most Taxed Status to the Top

I have an idea for a new tax to help launch us to the top of the, "most taxed", heap.

Add an Air Tax.

This one would not only put us way over the top, it would bring in an astounding amount of revenue. The formula is simple...

Pick a number. Let's use 2 liters. (that would be the amount of air an average adult might take in on each breath)

Then, figure out how many times per minute an average adult breathes...(it's 12 to 20 times per minute) We'll have to negotiate a respiratory rate. Pretend we've decided on 15 breaths per minute.

Next decide how much to charge. It has to be an amount that won't cause an uproar. So, we'll use $0.05 cents per breath. (That seems an innocent amount)

$0.05 cents X 15 breaths= $0.75 cents per minute of air consumed.

We shouldn't charge for every breath taken during a year; at least not at first. So, we'll charge each resident a tax of 20 minutes per month breathing time.

Now, $0.05 cents, per breath, times 15 equals $.75 cents per minute. Multiply that by 20 minutes, and that adds up to about $15.00 per adult, per month.
Over a year that is about $180.00 per adult, per year. That doesn't seem like much really. But...

If we only taxed 100,000 adult Marylanders that would add around $18,000,000.00 per anum to the budget.

I don't know how many adults live in Maryland but, I bet that some of the pols in Annapolis would be very happy and satisfied, for a while.
