Camp Airways at Woods Church Next Week

Kids with asthma can learn to manage the condition at this annual day camp in Severna Park, where junior counselors are still needed.

Children ages 6 to 12 with asthma are invited to attend Camp Airways, a day camp from Aug. 6 to 10 at in Severna Park.

Sponsored by the Baltimore Washington Medical Center (BWMC), campers will participate in a range of activities including asthma and nutrition education, arts and crafts, swimming and other outdoor activities, according to the website.

The goal of the camp is to teach children with asthma how to live with and manage their condition, as well as provide opportunities to interact with other children with asthma, according to the BWMC website.

Junior counselors, age 15 and older, are also needed to help with everyday activities from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Responsibilities include serving as a mentor or "camp buddy" for two assigned campers and assisting campers with daily activities including arts and crafts, asthma education, swimming and other outdoor activities.

All counselors must provide their own transportation to and from camp each day. Registration is required for campers and counselors.

The cost for the camp is $70.
