Bikes for the World Collection Nets 84 Donations

A Severna Park resident hosted a bicycle collection at Pedal Pushers to benefit Bikes for the World.

Saturday's Bikes for the World collection at Pedal Pushers in Severna Park resulted in the donations of 84 bicycles from community members.

The collection was organized by Severna Park resident Ann Jackson, and benefitted Bikes for the World, an organization that ships bikes to developing countries, to enhance the lives and livelihoods of residents through better transportation.

"The day was great. We collected 84 bicycles and had eight wonderful volunteers," Jackson said. "Two folks from Bikes for the World came also. They were really good at prepping the bicycles and it was fun to talk with them about Bikes for the World."

Jackson has hosted the collection at Pedal Pushers several times in the past. She said the collection gives local residents an opportunity to put their unwanted bikes to good use.

Those who donated bicycles also received a coupon for coffee courtesy of The Big Bean.

"It was a very successful day and lots of fun too," Jackson said.
