About our guest speaker and her presentation: Earlier this year, Arnold resident Liz Thibodeau traveled to Haiti with a group of nursing students from Boston College who were going there on a medical mission. Liz’ role was to film the trip and then create a comprehensive video that could be used as a teaching tool for future nursing students. As Liz will share with us through photos and video at this get-together, the trip meant a lot to the residents of the villages they visited, but it also proved to be far more meaningful for Liz personally than she ever imagined. Her story will inspire you to take time to examine your own life and make a conscious effort to make every day count from here forward.

Liz notes, “For some reason I keep hearing the old Fleetwood Mac song lyrics, ‘I climbed a mountain and I turned around.’ Going on the mission to Haiti opened up my eyes and heart to the choices I (we all) make in our lives and which ones actually make a difference. In just a span of January to now I went on the mission trip to Haiti, lost my mom (my best friend), and turned 50.  That's the mountain. When I ‘turned around,’ my perspective on life, family, career and service shifted. I guess I've been trying to have my cake and eat it too for all those years in so many areas of my life. I’ve now realized that wasn’t the right goal. It's not about having it all. Instead, it's about recognizing that you do have it all. You just have to open your eyes to see it. I’ve realized the choices we make at each juncture end up being a thread in our life story. I feel more authentic today than I have ever felt in my life, and I see a shift in my next 50 years to honor all the threads in the fabric of my life.”
