Severn School Announces Centennial Dramatic Production

Severn
School announced today that the Upper School theater arts program's Water
Street Players are to perform a Sharie Valerio original production in honor of
the celebration of Severn's Centennial.

The play, appropriately titled Severn Steps, is to take place
Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16 at 7:30 pm in Severn School's
Price Auditorium and is open to all public; tickets go on sale in early
November. Tickets cost $10.

As a representation of the many changes that have occurred over
Severn's one hundred years, Steps will include stories, photos, and music
through the eras with piano accompaniment by John Royen, famed performer from Preservation Hall in New Orleans.
Royen is a Severn alumnus from the class of 1973.

Other Severn School alumni have roles in the production. John
Norton '72, a regular performer with the Tred Avon Players of Oxford, Maryland,
and former Water Street Player Gregory Price '02, both will perform.

“Severn Steps not only refers to the changes in Severn over
these 100 years, but also to the steps around the campus as a place where
stories were shared. Current students will be in costume telling the stories of
Severn’s first fifty years, while alumni will share stories of the last fifty
years. It is to be a celebration that then invites you to collect and tell your
own stories this year to pass on to Severn's future alumni,” commented Valerio.
As one of the creators of Remember, Inc., a non-profit theatrical group which
performs segments of Annapolis' history, Valerio has helped tell the story to
audiences at Colonial Players, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, St. John's
College and City Dock. She has been staging dramatic productions at Severn
School since 1998.

Founded in 1914, Severn School
is celebrating its centennial year. It is not only the oldest but also the
largest independent school in Anne Arundel County. The college preparatory
school enrolls more than 800 students in grades preschool through 12.
