Ben Franklin: An Ingenious Life

When Biography.com conducted a survey asking people to name a famous person they’d like to have a drink with, Ben Franklin ranked in the top twenty. The Colonial Players offers you the opportunity to sit down with Ben Franklin thanks to a one-man play, Ben Franklin: An Ingenious Life, written and performed by Ray Flynt.

A second performance of the staged reading will take place on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 2:00pm in the theater at 108 East Street, Annapolis, MD. Journey back to the 18th century to hear the events that shaped the life of the man who helped guide our nation to independence, and later negotiated the treaty that brought an end to the Revolutionary War.

The role of Ben Franklin is played by Ray Flynt, the same actor who brought Franklin to life in CP’s recent musical, 1776. Flynt has spent a number of years working on a one-man play based on Franklin, and after sharing it, Colonial Players decided to bring the project to life. “These are the words of Ben Franklin,” Flynt said. “I imagined the audience visiting Franklin’s Philadelphia home to enjoy his wisdom and treasure his remarkable life as printer, inventor, philosopher and statesman. The arena stage at Colonial Players is the perfect venue for such an intimate portrayal.” This event is free and open to the public. Following the ninety-minute play, the audience is invited to stay and participate in a moderated talk back session.
