BLOG: Our April Book

April: Books and Clubs......Let's discuss.

With the month of April ending, I wanted to share our comments about the book we read for our Five O'Clock Angels Book Club, which was The Expats by Chris Pavone.

The truth be told, I could not get through the beginning chapters of this book.  I found out at our book club that most everyone came to the same conclusion and many did not finish the book, including myself.

The main character of the book became unbelievable from the start. It was difficult to become captive with the story mainly because it was a "bit jumpy" as one of our members described. Little time was spent discussing this book, and so we indulged in talking about other happenings in each other's lives, ie weddings, children, anniversaries celebrated, etc. while enjoying great wine and food from our wonderful hostess. Our next book is called Then Came You, by Jennifer Weiner.

In my other book club (hopefully, next month we will name ourselves) we had an entirely different experience with our book selection. Everyone loved Madame Tussaud by Michelle Moran and the discussion was very lively.  This book was last month's Five O'Clock Angel's selection (in a prior post) and it was interesting that the opinions were very similar.  Then someone came up with an idea to have a meeting at a local restaurant rather than someone's house in the coming months.

Any suggestions of a restaurant would be welcome... Our next book is the Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey.  This is her first book so it should be fun.
