UPDATE: Wires Down, Delays Expected on Route 648

Police are warning drivers to avoid Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard between Lower Magothy Beach Road and Leelyn Road.

Updated (9:40 a.m.)—Motorists are being urged to avoid Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard Wednesday morning due to downed power lines following a traffic accident, police said. Traffic is now stopped in both directions.

Anne Arundel County police said a vehicle struck a pole and overturned in the 300 block of Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard in Severna Park this morning at approximately 7:57 a.m.

As a result of the crash, crews will be in the area for several hours working on the downed pole. Motorists should avoid the area if possible.

At this time, traffic is closed both directions at Route 648 (B&A Boulevard) and Hill Road. Northbound traffic is being re-routed at Lower Magothy Beach Road and southbound traffic is being re-routed at Leelyn Drive.

Police said in an online advisory that the accident has forced a pole and wires down near the road. Major delays are expected.

As if 1:35pm crews are still working on live wires. Please use alternate routes. Blockades are still in place.
