1. SPHS Swimmers Prepare for Regional Meet

The Severna Park High School boys and girls swim teams just finished impressive weekends at the County Championships. The boys team placed first and the girls team came in second behind Annapolis High School. Both teams will look to continue its impressive run at the Regional Championships on Saturday.

2. Family Violence Trial Rescheduled for March 14

The trial for James Arthur Zito, a 22-year-old Millersville man who allegedly stabbed his mother in July 2012 and then fled the home, has been rescheduled for March 14. Zito's criminal trial in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis was originally scheduled to take place on Jan. 22. It was postponed when the defense attorney filed a motion indicating Zito had mental health issues.

3. Magothy River Scores an 'F' in Recent Report

The Magothy River recently scored an "F" in a report that measures its water quality, assessed by members of the Magothy River Association. The state of the Magothy will be addressed, and the report card fully disclosed, at the association's upcoming annual meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 20 at Anne Arundel Community College. 

4. Former Flower Stand Now Houses Furniture

There's a chain-link fence along Ritchie Highway between Arnold and Severna Park. If you've driven along the roadway, you really can't miss it. It's operated seasonally by property owner Donna Marsh, according to The Capital. But when not in use, it houses old wares and old furniture. In January, Marsh was issued a citation for operating an outdoor flea market on the property in violation of local zoning laws, according to online court records. A month later, there has been no change to the property. 

5. Severna Park Teacher Named Educator of the Month

 

The February "Educator of the Month" is Barbara Segnatelli of Severna Park High School. According to the AACPS website, The Educator of the Month is chosen by a committee made up of members of the Anne Arundel County Retired School Personnel Association (AARSPA).
