A handwritten sign on the door of the old Severna Park Post Office building announces two new businesses set to open soon. Zarrilli's Steaks and Hoagies Inc., and Arundel Marine Construction Inc., are both under construction inside the building at 513 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd.

2. SP Field Hockey Takes National Title

Severna Park's girls field hockey club recently swept the National Indoor Tournament, ranking in the top 10 of the best teams in the nation. Severna Park's girls under-19 team is one of the oldest and most prestigious field hockey clubs in Maryland. On March 1, the club's blue team continued that legacy by seizing first place in their pool in the the US Field Hockey Association's national tournament, according to Carol Pohlmeyer, who sits on the team's board of directors.

3. Award Winners are Shortlist of Severna Park Leaders

Pillars of the Severna Park community received special recognition recently from the Greater Severna Park Council. The annual Association for Severna Park Improvement, Renewal and Enhancement (ASPIRE) awards recognizes people in the community who stand up for others, whether it's through planning, volunteer or other community service work.

4. Police Release Photos of Suspected Severna Park Bank Robber

An unidentified man robbed the Capital One Bank in Severna Park on Feb. 22 at approximately 2:55 p.m., according to police. The man displayed a note demanding money before taking an undisclosed amount of currency and fleeing the bank. The suspect is described as a black male in his 40s, approximately 6-feet tall, with a heavy build.

 

5. Natural Beauty Captured in Kinder Farm Photo Contest

The Friends of Kinder Farm Park annually host a photo contest to highlight the assortment of treasures that can be found there. The winners of the 2012 contest were recently announced on the Friends website.
