Putting the fun into fundraising, announced the opening of its Annual Fund by inviting students, teachers, administrators, and families to the first annual Turkey Trot.

“St. Martin’s-in-the-Field has incredibly strong school spirit,” said Interim Head of School Margaret Delk Moore at the age 3 through eighth grade Episcopal school on Benfield Road in Severna Park. “We wanted a fun way to kick off our Annual Fund drive. Having a Turkey Trot is in keeping with the holiday season—a light-hearted, physically active way to show what is, in fact, our deep gratitude for our school.”

The Annual Fund supports the programs of the school, provides for financial aid, and contributes to projects.

Students are stepping it out for their school. They’re running laps and relays, dancing in place, walking backwards, and making other fun moves. In the spirit of Veterans Day, Nov. 11, everyone was asked to wear red, white, and blue—which also happens to be the school colors.

There’ll be plenty of autumnal colors as well—oranges, reds, and browns. As participation levels are achieved, Pilgrims and Indians and turkeys may appear on the school’s broad fields, lined with trees turning color in the invigorating fall air.

“The goal is to get near 100 percent participation from our school community in the Annual Fund,” said Mary Henry, director of development and admissions.

Since 1957 (notice the registration numbers on the turkeys!) St. Martin’s-in-the-Field Episcopal school has been welcoming all, regardless of denomination, as learners, leaders, and friends. The school has an active all-school physical education program and competitive middle school athletics sports program under the direction of long-time Athletic Director Betz Wild.

“At St. Martin’s-in-the-Field,” said Betz Wild, “our goal is to educate the whole child—intellectually, spiritually, physically. Our students are excited to get involved physically for the benefit of the school where they think, collaborate, and create.”
