Severna Park High School senior Evan Rockenbauch recently earned Eagle Scout ranking.

Rockenbauch is a member of Boy Scout Troop 993, which is sponsored by the Severna Park United Methodist Church. After earning 37 merit badges, the 18 year old was named an Eagle Scout.

“I joined Boy Scouts when I was about 6 because my brother was in it and he was having a lot of fun,” Rockenbauch said. “I have learned basic camping skills, a lot of leadership skills and how to make good friendships.”

For his Eagle service project, Rockenbauch built a 36-foot handicap ramp for the Trinity United Methodist Church in Odenton.

With help from other Boy Scouts, Rockenbauch planned, purchased the supplies and constructed the ramp for church patrons.

“The church had a lot of handicapped members and I thought it was wrong they wouldn’t be able to get into the church,” Rockenbauch said. “The best part was when it was all finished and I could walk on it. It was definitely a sense of accomplishment.”

Throughout his Boy Scout career, Rockenbauch has participated in Scouting for Food, trash pick-up at the Maryland Seafood Festival, and the annual yard cleanup at the Severna Park United Methodist Church.

In the fall, Rockenbauch will attend Anne Arundel Community College to study computer science.
