Since 9/11, A Greater Appreciation of the Military

Signs of military pride are common since the attacks of Sept. 11 drew the nation into conflict.

Dwight Mackel sports a Navy Seal hat at McGarvey's at City Dock in Annapolis on May 2, 2011—one day after President Barack Obama announced that Osama bin Laden was captured and killed by Seal Team Six. Dwight, a pilot, said he was particularly affected by the Sept. 11 attacks. "I'm here wearing the hat," said Mackel of Annapolis. "For me, it really hit home. Everyone was affected by 9/11, but I'm a United pilot."Credit DonnaL.Cole
