Remembering Kelcey Silva

Dozens of friends and family members streamed into on Monday to share their sorrow at the tragic death of Kelcey Silva, a Severna Park teenager killed in a on Thursday (June 16).

A common thread in the remembrances people shared of what made this beloved teen extra special was her beautiful smile. Kelcey's mother, Kristin Silva, of Carrollton Manor in Severna Park, was amazed at how fast the news traveled last week on Facebook of her daughter’s death. "I'm still numb," she said the day after her daughter's death.

“She was just a kid that everybody loved—very vivacious and always smiling and happy. She was a beautiful girl,” she said.

The Silvas formerly lived in the community of Witherensea in Edgewater, where Kelcey attended South River High School up until 2008 when she and her mother moved to Severna Park. Kelscey graduated from with the Class of 2009.

Kelcey's father is Fransisco Silva and had many co-workers and friends at the funeral home to show their support.

Kelcey had just finished up her sophomore year at Towson University where she studied international business and Spanish, of which she was fluent.

"She loved all things Spanish," said Kristin Silva. "She was a good student and worked hard in school."

Many friends from all over the area were paying their respects to the family.

"She always found the bright side to everything," said David Garcia, a friend from Laurel who reminisced about beach week back in 2009 when Kelcey needed a place to stay at the ocean.

"She was very funny and a free spirit," he said.

Denise Huntley and Doris Hite came to offer their condolences to the Silva family. Both know Francisco Silva, Kelcey's father, who works at Prince George Community College.  "It's too sad and too soon," said Denise Huntley. "It is heartbreaking, she was too young and so beautiful."

"She was a nice girl and loved swimming- she had a great smile," said Kacey Queen who came with his wife Jhoseline to the gathering. Kacey met Kelcey while at Severna Park High School, before transferring and eventually graduating from Glen Burnie High School in 2010.  "She was really outgoing and liked to party and dance. She had a great smile and was very happy," said Jhoseline.

Lexiss Arroyo, 20, went to South River High School with Kelcey. They once dated. "She was very kind, very sweet—she was perfect," he said.
