One Year Later, Share Your Earthquake Memories

A year ago a 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Severna Park area. Where were you?

I can remember as clear as day where I was last year when the .

I was pretty fresh out of college and still living at home in Bel Air with my parents. I was jobless at the time and I had just come home from the gym when I decided to make lunch.

I pulled out the bread and the drawer, undid the tie on the loaf, took out two pieces and went to put them in the toaster when boom—the earth shook.

I didn’t know what was happening so while the ground was moving I ran down the hall to see if a big truck was driving by—it wasn’t. I ran back to the kitchen, grabbed the phone and dialed my mom just as it stopped.

I must have been one of the first people to make a call because luckily I got through to my mom. We conversed about what had just happened—each of us in a total state of shock and surprise. "Oh my gosh" was probably uttered 20 times.

Now I am the biggest sucker for animals in the world so I immediately went to check on our dog, and my rabbit (yes I have a rabbit) to make sure they were OK. Honestly, I don’t think either of them noticed.

I tried calling my dad and boyfriend, who were both at work, but couldn’t get through. I checked the house and everything seemed fine.

However, I remember the text my boyfriend sent me when he got home from work that day. He wrote, “The earthquake destroyed my room” and sent me a picture of a few items that had fallen off of his dresser. I found that amusing.

Where were you during last year’s earthquake? Were you able to make calls? Tell us in the comments.
