Flash Flood Warning for Parts of Anne Arundel County

Periods of heavy rain expected today, 2 to 3 inches of rainfall possible in Severna Park area.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood warning for northern Anne Arundel County, eastern Howard County, southern Baltimore County and Baltimore City until 3:30 p.m.

For tonight, the NWS reports indicate an 80 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm for the Severna Park area before 10 p.m., then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 67. New rainfall amounts could be between 1 and 2 inches.

According to the NWS, over an inch of rain fell Friday morning in and around Baltimore and over an inch more is likely this afternoon. This will make flash flooding likely, especially in urbanized areas.

Some locations that will continue to be affected by the heavy rain include Columbia, the Baltimore metro area, Fort Meade, and Arbutus.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Most flood-related deaths occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges, dips, or low water crossings. Never try to cross a flowing stream, even a small one, on foot. To escape rising water move up to higher ground.
