9/11 Anniversary Events in Anne Arundel County

All over the region this weekend, events commemorate the attacks in the United States on Sept. 1, 2001.

Many community groups in Anne Arundel County are marking the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001 with special events.

St. John's College, 60 College Ave., Annapolis
Sept. 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This town-hall style forum focuses on the country’s future leaders. Roughly 150 student leaders from local colleges and high schools will participate to discuss how to prevent future acts of terrorism. Sen. Benjamin Cardin will speak and answer questions. 9/11 Day of Service
Mountain Road and Catherine Avenue, Pasadena
Sept. 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Arc of the Central Chesapeake Region is participating in the National Day of Service and Remembrance. The group will be working on landscaping, painting and other improvements at two houses in Pasadena. Shifts will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and noon to 4 p.m. For further information, contact Angie Demoreland at ademoreland@thearccr.org.


Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Headquarters, Millersville
Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m.
The 9/11 memorial in front of the Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Headquarters on Veterans Highway will be open to the public with a 10th anniversary ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. Col. Edward C. Rothstein, the commander of Fort George G. Meade, will be the featured speaker and the Annapolis Chorale will perform.


Maryland Fire-Rescue Services Memorial on Calvert Street, Annapolis
Sept. 11 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
The city of Annapolis is participating in the National Moment of Remembrance—an event where municipalities across the country will honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 and their loved ones. Among those attending are: Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen, Annapolis Police Chief Michael Pristoop, Annapolis Fire Chief David Stokes and Sen. John Astle.


South River High School, 201 Central Ave E, Edgewater
Sept. 11 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The Londontowne Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Anna Binneweg, will open its 2012 Champions & Heroes season with a special concert to honor national heroes through some of the most powerful and emotional American music of the 20th century. St. Anne's Church, Annapolis
Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.
This service at St. Anne’s remembers those who lost their lives on Sept. 11. The Annapolis Chorale and Annapolis Chamber Orchestra will perform. The service will be led by the Rev. Amy Richter.

Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis
Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.
According to the organization’s website, the goal of the charity race is to “never forget the sacrifices of all of the Heroes of September 11th - veteran, first responder, and civilian.” The event supports the Travis Manion Foundation.

Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
Live Arts Maryland will present a free concert at Maryland Hall, which will feature a performance of Mozart's Requiem and Ave verum Corpus from the Annapolis Chorale. The concert will also feature a performance of Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings from the Chamber Orchestra.

Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
This is a community-wide interfaith worship service that will be held to remember those who lost their lives 10 years ago in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
