Nervous to Try Yoga?

Don't be nervous to try your first yoga class.

Attending your first yoga class can be intimidating.  But I am here to tell you it shouldn’t be!  My name is Dana Opalinsky, and I am a local yoga instructor.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to blog about yoga here on Severna Park Patch.

One of the main reasons I became a yoga teacher was to introduce people to the path of yoga.  Each person’s path is different; a good instructor will help you find the entrance.

So many times people tell me that they are nervous or scared to go to their first yoga class.  I was too.  But, let me tell you that you should be excited about it!  You can only be a beginner at something once.  Cherish that time.

Yoga is a “no competition” & “no judgment” zone.  You should never feel that other students are observing you.  They are probably too busy working on their own practice.  The Severna Park area has fabulous classes with fabulous instructors.  Not all classes are the same.

Relish your time as a beginner to try different types of yoga and different instructors.  You can always call a studio ahead of time to ask questions or talk with the instructor prior to class.  They want you to love the experience.

Yoga has many benefits such as stress reduction, improved flexibility and building greater strength.  The best part is that these benefits are available to beginners as well as advanced yogis.  Many of my students notice some benefit after just one class.

I hope I have helped to ease some anxiety about starting your yoga practice.  The benefits are numerous and the journey amazing.  I am so happy to be a part of it.
