BLOG: General Assembly Begins 2012 Legislative Session

A new blog for residents of Severna Park and the surrounding area to keep you informed of Legislative Events in Annapolis during the 2012 Legislative Session.

Someone once asked me what I do with my spare time, and I politely laughed and asked, "spare time?"  While most Marylanders sat down to a relaxing Sunday afternoon of Ravens football, I took my "spare time" to sit with my laptop and read several bills which will be heading to hearings during the 2012 legislative session.  I have to admit having taken several breaks to aide my son in his preparation for midterm exams, but afterall, it was a nice break from pages and pages of pre-filed bills to be heard during this session.

Being given the opportunity to communicate with Severna Park (and others who read the Patch) will be a great way to get information about the session, upcoming hearings and votes to constituents.  I hope to be able to give you almost up to date information on issues most important to you.

In order to do that, here's my thought (and please feel free to comment with better ones, as my goal will be to make this very interactive and responsive).  We all know that this session is going to be filled with discussion of taxes, trust funds, regulations and more laws to be placed on the books.  The Chesapeake Bay and flush taxes will take center stage as well as "What to do about spending" - how, where and how much.

Many times I receive communications that amount to cut taxes, cut spending.  What I am interested in, is your ideas and comments about where you believe government can do a better job.  Each one of us has a particular area of particular passion, whether it is schools, the enviornment, business development or land use.  Perhaps its pension reform or health care that you find of particular interest.

That's what I want to hear about.  What would you like to see government focusing on, and quite frankly, in what areas should it get out of your way?

I look forward to hearing from you and will be uploading and updating information as I receive it.
