Victoria’s Fancy Food Seeking Chocolate Olympics Contestants

The annual chocolate competition will be held on Feb. 9.

Calling all chocolate makers, lovers and enthusiasts. Victoria’s Fancy Foods is seeking constants for its annual Chocolate Olympics.

The fourth annual Chocolate Olympics, held the Saturday before Valentine’s Day, will take place on Feb. 9 and owner Victoria Stagmer is looking for contestants willing to cook up their favorite chocolate recipes.

“The whole thing is just an amazing amount of fun and the whole room is full of chocolate,” Stagmer said.

For the contest, Stagmer is looking for eight amateur chefs willing to cook up a chocolate dessert, give out their recipe and provide 100 samples. The contest is free to enter and each contestant receives a goodie bag. The three winners get a gift certificate to Victoria’s Fancy Foods.

“The contestants can not be from the food industry,” Stagmer said. “It’s for amateurs only—so no caterers or chefs.”

Each contestant is assigned a country, although his or her dessert does not have to be associated with that country. Stagmer plays the Olympic-theme music throughout the event as people come to taste the chocolates.

The actual event is free and open to the public. People can come and taste the desserts and then vote for their favorite one. The top three winners will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.

“It’s fun just because of the uniqueness of it,” Stagmer said. “In the middle of the winter there is nothing to do and everybody has cabin fever. It snowed 6 inches the first year I did it and people still came. Give people free chocolate and they will come.”

Stagmer also said the event coincides nicely with Valentine’s Day. If someone tastes a dessert they like, they can take home the recipe and make it themselves.

Anyone interested in being a contestant should email Stagmer at victoria@victoriasfancyfoods.com. The contestants will be picked on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Chocolate Olympics will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Feb. 9 at Victoria’s Fancy Foods.
