Top 5: CPR Heroes, Rock 'n' Roll Revival and Holy Grounds Makeover

In this edition of our weekly news roundup, a local man's life is saved, students speak their minds about the latest musical and Home Depot pitches in.

1. CPR Saves Life After Racquetball Game in Millersville

Employees using CPR at a fitness club in Millersville saved the life of a Pasadena man Friday morning. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department said in a press release that a 72-year-old man collapsed while playing racquetball at the Severna Park Racquetball and Fitness club. Two employees, Kevin Davis and Chuck Newby, came to his rescue, armed with an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).

Rock ‘n’Roll Revival Q&A Series 

Rock 'n' Roll Revival XXIV at Severna Park High School kicked off March 1 to rave reviews and created all sorts musical excitement around the school. Patch stopped by a dress rehearsal to talk with a few members of the cast and crew about the show, what made them want to join, and why Rock 'n' Roll is so popular at SPHS.

Those who frequent The Cottage in Park Plaza often have probably noticed that the local shop has a new look, as well as some new products. On March 3, the Severna Park gift boutique underwent its first complete remodel since the store opened 27 years ago. The new look includes new carpet, a reorganized window stage, new flooring and updated displays.

4. Home Depot Gives Holy Grounds $15K Makeover

Home Depot workers and volunteers were hard at work Wednesday giving Holy Grounds the much-needed makeover it deserves. When Home Depot store manager Laura Gibson and her associates first heard about the SevernaPark Community Center’s Holy Grounds, she knew it was project they had to be involved in.

5. 3-Time Space Traveler Will Speak to SPMS Students

Sixth-grade students at Severna Park Middle School will have an opportunity to share in an out-of-this-world experience on March 21. The school will host astronaut Don Thomas who has been on three space shuttle missions. Thomas will talk to students about the challenges he overcame on his way to becoming an astronaut—he was turned down three times—and will share photos taken during his three missions.
