Spark Running Raises $1,760 for Boston Victims

The local running shop hosted a Run for Boston on Monday evening.

Local runners rallied at Spark Running on Monday evening to support the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. They also raised $1,760 in the process.

The running shop in Park Plaza hosted Run for Boston Monday night. Owner Caitlin Burman said the event had about 50 people in attendance, from 9 month olds in strollers to people over 65.

“I think everyone was really excited to be here, and I think everyone was really excited to see so many people running,” Burman said. “It was just kind of the camaraderie of runners getting together that was nice.”

Between selling Runners for Boston T-shirts, and collection donations, the event raised $1,760 for One Fund Boston, a charity organization the Boston Athletic Association has set up, Burman said.

The shirts were being sold for $20 each, but many people donated more than the cost. Burman said she and her staff were extremely happy with how the event went.

“We were really glad we did it, and thrilled with the turnout and the generosity of everyone who was here,” Burman said.

Spark Running has a few T-shirts left—they started with 72. Once they are gone, Burman said they wouldn’t be getting anymore. However, the store will continue collecting donations for One Fund Boston until the end of the week.
