Small Business Showcase a Rousing Success

Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce event allowed local companies, entrepreneurs and nonprofits to promote their products and services at Marley Station Mall.

The Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce conducted a on Saturday at Marley Station Mall.  Showcasing local organizations, small businesses and community experts, the event featured performances, giveaways and raffles for patrons and bystanders.

The flagship performance of the day was provided by the Jing Ying Institute when students of various ages demonstrated choreographed kung fu fights wearing traditional costumes and using weaponry such as swords.   Jing Ying Institute also provided a free 15 minute women’s self defense seminar. The Maryland State Martial Arts and the Severna Park Elementary School Chorus also performed.

Perfect for Mother’s Day weekend, many showcase participants, such as Jing Ying Institute and offered raffles for attractive baskets.  Red carnations from Benfield Florist were presented in honor of Mother's Day.

Free face painting, sponsored by the Jing Ying Institute, was provided by Robert Yoho, of the Laurel, MD based company Morphiage.  Yoho has done extensive makeup work for local theatrical productions and national television work. 

Ross Kennard of Kennard Chiropractic in Severna Park was on hand to provide a visual demonstration of how pinched spinal joints reduce mobility and cause pain.  Kennard also provided free gift certificates to new clients for a free 20 minute massage and complimentary checkup at their office on Ritchie Highway.

Other Showcase participants were: Brightview Builders of Severna Park, Pasadena-based promotional company Idea Weaver and Veteran’s Pest Control Management of Severna Park. Local entrepreneurs from Tastfully Simple and Tupperware were also on hand to demonstrate their products.

Businesses were not the only participants in the Showcase.  Elvaton Baptist Church was on hand with a display about their Awana program for kids, a Vacation Bible School program planned for the summer and the Elvaton Christian Academy.  The Academy provides education from Pre-K to eighth grade.

The Small Business Showcase gave many local companies, entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations a chance to share information about their goods and services with a large consumer audience.
