Riverbay Roadhouse Serves the Community of Cape St. Claire, and Beyond

Local owners Pat and Danny Miller invite Broadneck diners to come and enjoy an evening with them.

As a Cape resident, I invite you to try the . If you haven’t been here yet, you will be pleasantly surprised – it is a beautiful family-friendly addition to our community.   

Owners/managers, Pat and Danny Miller, a dedicated mother-son team, described how they decided to open a restaurant in Cape St. Claire. Both grew up here, and have incorporated their community ties in hiring local employees and in using local food supply vendors.   

Danny said that despite having owned a local plumbing business (DK Miller Plumbing, Inc.) for many years, he has always had an idea for opening a restaurant and considered buying a restaurant in Baltimore City. But when he heard that the restaurant spot in the Cape St. Claire shopping center was for sale, he jumped at the chance to buy and renovate the property in order to convert it into a family-friendly restaurant, right here in the community where he grew up.   

Pat and Danny have worked hard to fine-tune the menu, and have also recently hired chefs and managers with extensive restaurant management and culinary experience. Pat said she has totally immersed herself into all aspects of the Roadhouse, and is pleased that she can use her 30+ years of business management experience and see friends and neighbors who regularly visit the restaurant.   

Danny said that they hired an architect to design the Roadhouse and focused on a “totally different, open, clean, and welcoming environment.”   

It is now crab season and the Roadhouse has a great fresh local supply of all sizes. And you can call in and use the “drive-thru” window. I find the Happy Hour appetizer specials are excellent, and there is also live music most evenings. 

On Tuesday, August 2, the Roadhouse will be host to a wonderful fundraising event for the which is trying to raise funds for a new fire engine. It offers all of us an opportunity to support our local businesses and fire department in one stop!

Agree with Melanie. Visited three times within the first 6 months of opening. Visit # 1: Great entrees but side dishes and service needed work. I gave it an "average." 2: Great service (super waitress, great bread). Two of three entrees good, but the third (my wife's) failed to impress. Visit # 3: Long wait (good sized crowd that night), After that; strictly amateur night. Service was awful, previously nice extras (like a bread basket) and several entrees were no longer availalble. Food was tasteless (we didn't finish our main courses and declined the offer for a take-home box), soup (cream of crab) ran out before we were served (waiter, who we had to complain about for never coming to the table) said the chef burned it. Basically this visit was three hours wasted (though, obviously tried to make it a success). Even after we talked to the manager, things did not get better. The excuses were just coming from a higher level. All this said, I will give them one more try because I want to see our Broadneck neighbors and neighborhood businesses succeed. The things they got right were great (there was some obvious potential), but the bad was so bad that it overcame the good (kind of Like Rory McElroy [sic] at the Masters) . I think (hope) the problems I experienced were due to "teething" and inexperience. Hopefully a new chef and some experienced management will turn this place from being a "sow's ear" into a silk purse. I really do wish the owners well.

We stopped by for crabs the other day when it was just too hot to pick them outdoors. They were very good. We also enjoyed the Baltimore steamed shrimp. We have been disappointed in the past, but like the other commenters, we will continue to give them another try as they make adjustments because we are eager for them to succeed.

We have eaten there several times and thought the price was a little high for what we got in return. However, we have always left full and enjoyed the meals. I had a burger, fries and a cold drink there for lunch a month or so ago, and it was excellent. Service has been ok, not great, but certainly not unacceptable.

We ate there again last night. Might be the best bacon cheeseburger in town.
