Public Hearing Scheduled for Proposed Crematory in Millersville

The Maryland Department of the Environment has completed its review on a proposed new location of the Maryland Crematory LLC.

A public hearing will be held to discuss the proposed new Millersville location of Maryland Crematory LLC, according to a release from the Maryland Department of the Environment, Air and Radiation Management Administration (MDE).

The hearing comes after the MDE completed its review of the Maryland Crematory LLC’s permit to construct at the new location.

The public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Maryland Department of Transportation conference room, 7201 Corporate Center Dr. in Hanover.

In May 2011 many concerned residents packed the to about the building of the crematory in the Millersville area.

A community consisting of about 800 homes and an elementary school sits behind the proposed location at 408 Headquarters Dr.

The Shipley's Retreat community, along with a privately owned farm, are both located within a half-mile radius of the proposed location.

Those wishing to attend the September hearing will need personal identification to get it.

According to the MDE’s release, a final determination on the issuing of the permit will only be made after a review of all pertinent information that is presented at the public hearing or submitted in written comments.
