Maine Cottage Packing Up Shop, Heading to Annapolis

The home décor store will be moving to a bigger Annapolis location in early November.

If Severna Park looks a little less bright come November, it is probably because Maine Cottage has moved to its new Annapolis location.

The furniture décor store that specialized in bright, upbeat colors will be heading to Annapolis so they can open a bigger showroom.

“We searched in Severna Park because we have loved the community for so long, and they have been so good to us,” said Showroom Manager Susan Singleton. “However, we couldn’t find something big enough to accommodate corporate offices and the showroom altogether. We are growing very rapidly. “

Singleton said the new Annapolis location is triple the size of its current Severna Park location on Evergreen Road. With the bigger space, Maine Cottage plans to create an interactive area with the flagship showroom where people can experiment with fabrics and paints.

The Severna Park showroom opened in 2003 under the name Russell & Mackenna.

“Maine Cottage has always remained consistent in the fact that it has and radiates a very timeless feel and style,” Singleton said. “Our furniture, fabrics and colors are very uplifting. And again, it is timeless. It is not trendy; it is not a fad.”

When you walk in to Maine Cottage, you can’t help but feel like you have been swept away to a beach or someplace equally relaxing. The colors are bright and vibrant and the products—all made in the United States—are fetching and unique.

“A lot of our clients and customers do furnish beach homes or second homes. But I would say we have just as many people come in who want to update or lighten up a space,” Singleton said. “They come in and see the color and are inspired by it, but don’t always know how to incorporate it into their current home. We go to the homes and teach people how to incorporate the color and the lightness into their current décor.”

While Maine Cottage will be changing their location, customers can still expect all the same products and designs. Singleton said they often get customers from Maine or Connecticut who stop by to check out the shop on their way to Florida.

“Their visits can last an hour to an hour-and-a-half because they want to talk about their home and their experience with main cottage pieces,” Singleton said. “People are very loyal to the brand.”

Even though Maine Cottage will be relocating, those who are fans of the brand can still get everything their home needs in Annapolis. They are not planning to close during the move. The new store will open in early November at 209 West St.

“People walk in the door and are immediately inspired by the feel of the showroom and the possibility of color,” Singleton said.
