Franklin’s Toys Continues a Lego Tradition

The Lego Expo and Sale features creations from area kids.

The front window of Franklin’s Toys in Park Plaza is filled with tanks, fast cars, castles and more—all created from Legos.

The local toy store’s annual Lego Expo and sale is currently underway. Owner Jeff Franklin said he has been involved in a Lego Expo for 30 years.

Along with a 20 percent off sale on Legos, the Lego Fest also welcomes creations from area kids. Franklin said they usually have around 50 projects displayed in the windows. The ages of the Lego creators range from 3 to 21.

“I love seeing the joy and pride on the kids faces when they drop off their creations,” Franklin said. “They just have so much fun doing it.”

Those interested in having their Lego projects displayed can bring it to Franklin’s Toys from now until April 21. Kids can drop off their project, have their photo taken and then pick it back up when the expo is over. All participants also get a small prize.

Franklin said he is expecting between 50 and 60 Lego projects—maybe even more.

“It gets to the point where it is hard to get the projects in the window without stepping on another one,” Franklin said with a laugh. “But it is all a lot of fun.”

Editor's note: The names of the kids participating in the Lego Expo are not released, only their photos.
