Cakes & Confections Relocating to Severna Park

The bakery will move from the Broadneck community to a new location on Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.

A specialty bakery in the St. Margaret's community of Broadneck plans to relocate to Severna Park in October, in the hopes of getting a little more space and a little more traffic.

Cakes and Confections is all the rage for those who know about it. Nestled in a quiet community on St. Margaret's Road, once you find it, you may have to fight for parking. There are only three spaces in front of the store, located at a Y intersection of St. Margarets and Browns Woods roads.

"Folks like our stuff, it's just a challenge to get them to remember to come here. If they do come this way, it's because it's a detour, not a destination," said the bakery's co-owner Michael Brown.

Brown and his wife Julianne have plans to move to a spot in Severna Park, where they will have more store space to expand their stock, more parking spaces, and more visibility.

Brown said he still expects his regulars to hunt them down, after all, the new store is only a 10-minute drive away.

After the move, Brown hopes to use the additional space to create a mail-order business—something he and his wife have always wanted to do.  It just hasn't been feasible until now.

The new Cakes and Confections will be located at 342B Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. Brown said they are aiming for a mid-October opening.
