Parking Lot Generosity Brings $1,500 Donation to Hospice of the Chesapeake

A good relationship between two Severna Park businesses benefits the nonprofit that serves the community.

Where to park the customers on St. Patrick's Day, the busiest day of the year at the in Severna Park isn't a dilemma  — thanks to their neighbors at who have donated their side parking lot to the restaurant on St. Paddy's day for the past two years. The pub is so popular on the holiday that it runs a shuttle from a local park & ride to their location.

To thank the Barranco family, who don't schedule services on that day to have parking available for the pub's overflow, Brian Boru donated $1,500 in the funeral home's name to the Hospice of the Chesapeake.

The Irish pub is locally owned by Michael Galway of Davidsonville and Anthony Clarke of  Annapolis.

"With the partnership between Barranco and Boru we added an additional 70 plus parking spaces for the convenience and safety of communities in and around Severna Park to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day,"  Jeffrey Burgess, manager of the pub, wrote in an email to Patch.

"Brian Boru and Barranco & Sons maintain a good working relationship and work hard to support each other as small businesses. As a gesture of gratitude Brian Boru offered a donation in the name of Barranco & Sons Funeral Home to their choice of charities."

Burgess said it is one of the Irish restaurant company's core values  to look for opportunities to give back to the local community and they were pleased to  be able to thank the funeral home by donating in their name to the Hospice of the Chesapeake.

"...It has worked out really well. Brian Boru have been great neighbors," said John Barranco in an email to Patch.
